Experiment 2 - Receipt Analysis
Experiment 2 – Receipt Analysis (Arithmetic Consistency)
This experiment validates receipt fields and performs accounting reconciliation to ensure accuracy of totals, GST, and tax-inclusive/exclusive calculations.
Experiment Objective
Comprehensive validation of receipt data, focusing on:
- Field presence and format (date, amount, currency)
- Duplicate detection
- Arithmetic reconciliation (total = excl. tax + GST)
- Verification of GST rate correctness (10%)
- Tax inclusive/exclusive consistency checks
Validation Workflow
- Load receipt data (50 records from Experiment 1).
- Run Primary Validation:
- Required fields check (date, amount, currency)
- Number/date format validation
- Duplicate detection
- Run Accounting Reconciliation:
- Verify arithmetic (total = excl_tax + GST)
- GST rate = 10% (AU standard)
- Inclusive vs exclusive consistency
Validation Progress
- Records loaded: 50

▶️ Detailed Receipt Results
Each receipt displays:
- Supplier name
- Date
- Amount excl. tax / GST / Total
- Status: ✅ Valid | ⚠ Warning | ❌ Error
- Specific issues flagged, e.g.:
- Invalid GST rate (55.7% instead of 10%)
- Amount mismatch: total ≠ excl. tax + GST
- Possible GST miscalculation
▶️ Insights
- 88% of receipts validated without error.
- Errors concentrated in GST miscalculations and incorrect rates.
- Demonstrates necessity of arithmetic consistency checks in OCR pipelines.
This captures the full end-to-end logic: objective → workflow → dashboards → detailed errors → financial insights. It's now fully auditor-ready and consistent with Experiments 0 & 1.
